The Lasting Value of Volunteerism

2025-07-23T10:29:06-04:00July 23, 2025|

Volunteering is a work of heart. At Lutheran Life Communities, giving your time uplifts the lives of residents and team members, and you’ll often find that this labor of love enriches your own life just as deeply.

Volunteering creates meaningful connections, builds purpose and strengthens communities. Each opportunity within our vibrant settings helps enhance daily life for those who live and work here. And the impact always goes both ways: volunteers inspire others while finding a renewed sense of fulfillment themselves.

Why Volunteerism Matters.

Research shows that giving time to help others can improve emotional well-being, sharpen social engagement and foster a sense of belonging. It also encourages continued independence by keeping minds and bodies active through purposeful involvement.

Community members who volunteer often report feeling more engaged in the world around them, forming new friendships and even learning new skills. Whether sharing a talent, offering companionship or lending support for programs and events, each act of volunteerism contributes to a more connected and vibrant way of living.

Create Your Own Volunteer Experience.

Ways to Get Involved: Alzheimer’s Awareness and Education

Empowering Families Through Knowledge, Support and Action

At Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, we’re proud to be a trusted hub for Alzheimer’s education, dementia support and family caregiving resources. For more than 130 years, we’ve walked hand-in-hand with individuals navigating the journey of memory loss, offering compassionate care and tools.

One of our favorite ways to do that is through free educational events, open to anyone seeking expert guidance at no cost. We are a steadfast partner of the Alzheimer’s Association, a national organization with local chapters dedicated to raising awareness, funds and resources for those with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Our friends at the Alzheimer’s Association are our co-hosts for educational events hosted here on our Arlington Heights campus—providing the latest scientific research, advice and low-cost tools.

The Power of Choice in Rehabilitation.

Did you know you can choose where you recover for short-term rehabilitation and skilled nursing?

Recovering from surgery, an injury or a medical event isn’t exactly a vacation—but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have some say in where you spend your time healing. But here’s the catch: not all rehabilitation locations are created equal. Some offer private rooms, while others have shared spaces. Some feel like high-end resorts, while others…don’t. The point is, this is your recovery, and you have a choice. So, the team at Lutheran Life Communities is here to empower your right to choose the best option for you.

Downsizing vs. Rightsizing: A Fresh Perspective for a Simpler Spring

2025-03-26T15:04:11-04:00February 18, 2025|

We get it, downsizing can be intimidating. Even the word itself sounds negative; down equals lower, less, loss. However, delaying or neglecting the vital practice of downsizing can cause individuals to make important life decisions based upon superficial barriers, versus making decisions based upon their wants and needs. This is why many people are choosing to re-focus this process and shift their perspective from “downsizing” to “rightsizing.” This month’s blog is all about how to embrace a healthier practice and mindset that focuses less on loss, and more on ensuring your space fits your goals and wants. Whether you’re looking to join a community, keep a more maintenance-free home or simply declutter for peace of mind, the process can be deeply rewarding. Let’s dive in!

New Year’s Resolution: How to Begin an Assisted Living Journey

2025-03-26T15:05:53-04:00January 24, 2025|

The Christmas wrapping has been recycled, perhaps the tree is still up, but the family has gone home—sometimes all the way across the country. And unfortunately, the icicles and windshield frost grew back overnight. If this scene sounds familiar, you are far from alone. That is why the post-holiday season is one of the most popular times of the year to explore assisted living communities. With the holidays behind them, many adult children and their parents embark on a journey, leveraging the new year as an opportunity for a fresh start towards a better future.

2024-11-06T14:59:20-05:00October 30, 2024|

Choosing a skilled nursing community is a major life decision. For many, the assumption is that once you’ve moved into a community, you’re there for the long haul. But the truth is, if you’re not satisfied with your current facility, switching to another skilled nursing community can significantly enhance your quality of life. And it’s easier than you think.
